What to do with the Global Urban Agendas? - Half day Conference in Folketinget

Date(s):
Thursday 30.03.2017
Location:
Folketinget (Danish Parliament) Rigsdagsgården, 1240 København K

A seminar on the UN’s global goals and the New Urban Agenda in a Danish Context. The International Federation for Housing and Planning and The Danish Architecture Centre invite you to a seminar on sustainable urban development, management and solutions.
Cities around the world are growing considerably these years. Right at this point in time half of the world’s population lives in cities and this urbanisation trend will continue unimpeded during the decades to come. The United Nations estimates that two thirds of the world’s population will stay in congested city areas by 2050. The challenge is therefore clear and highly topical: The cities will thus be absolutely central epicentres for the sustainable development of the world. That offers challenges, but also potential for the cities, as growth centres.

Over the last two years the United Nations has contributed with two crucial frameworks for sustainable global development. With these leading world goals and the ambitions of the New Urban Agenda, IFHP and The Danish Architecture Centre sets the focus on the international visions in a Danish context. Cities are faced with a demand, of which businesses must find the solutions. This requires leadership, courage and innovative capacity. These are competencies which Denmark can boast of and should contribute with in relation to the global challenges.

Come and listen to, among others, former president of the UN General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, business leaders and mayors addressing this challenge – and join in debating how Denmark can help to support the sustainable urban development.
