Second Call for Urban Solutions for 'The City We Need' From the IFHP community

What is your urban solution? Seize the opportunity! Help contribute to the New Urban Agenda via IFHP!
As an associate partner of the WUC, we are pleased to invite you to submit more urban solutions in order to enrich the process and bring compelling initiatives and commitments to the UN Habitat III Conference in Quito. We at the IFHP HQ will compile and submit a proposal to WUC on behalf of you: the IFHP Community!

The City We Need is an evolving document that the World Urban Campaign (an initiative of UN-Habitat) has been preparing several years ahead of UN Habitat III. Momentum is now picking up toward Habitat III, this year’s United Nations conference that will result in a 20-year urbanization strategy called the New Urban Agenda.

Ahead of that unique conference, a major stakeholder initiative is soliciting ideas for inclusion in a key set of recommendations for that strategy. Specifically, the World Urban Campaign is looking for “urban solutions”, or initiatives, practices, policies, legislation and models that address urban challenges to achieving what the campaign calls The City We Need.

The Urban Solutions process started at the end of 2015. To date WUC has received more than 100 proposals that have been reviewed by the WUC Working Group on The City We Need (Drafting Committee). They have been posted online on the WUC website and constitute a rich base of initiatives, tools and models of interest to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.

How can you share your Urban Solution?

As during the first call for Urban Solutions, we invite you to fill in the online template with a short description of your proposed solution and:

  • Submit your proposals (the filled in template) to IFHP at r.hess@ifhp.org.
  • Please submit your new solution BEFORE June 30th, 2016.
  • We at the IFHP HQ will compile and submit a proposal to WUC on behalf of IFHP Community.
  • Solutions will be posted on the WUC Website: www.worldurbancampaign.org

More about Urban Solutions:

Urban Solutions are initiatives, practices, policies, legislations and models that address urban challenges and constitute effective responses to The City We Need. They are articulated around ten drivers of changes: ''Governance and Partnerships'', ''Planning and Design'', ''Finance'', ''Land, Housing and Services'', ''Environment'', ''Health and Safety'', ''Economy and Livelihoods'', ''Education'', ''Technology'' and ''Monitoring and Evaluation''. Urban Solutions illustrate how the drivers of change can be implemented, either locally or in multiple contexts.

The proposals that IFHP added to the list in the first round are: Casa Legal (a slum inhabitant centered method for all inclusive slum upgrading) and Innovation Method Design with syntactic and fuzzy logic model to assess cohesion & connection in cities.
